Located on the road to the campground. An evening program is presented at the campground amphitheater at 9pm every evening while open. Topics vary nightly. Leave No Trace Exhibit. The ranger statioin offers tour ticket sales, book sales, and information. Located near the ranger station is a campground, grocery store, gas station, showers, restrooms, and laundry facilities. |

The museum is located on Chapin Mesa, 20 miles from the park entrance. Self-guided trail of Spruce Tree House in spring, summer, and fall. Free ranger-guided tour of Spruce Tree House in winter, 3 times daily. Park video plays in auditorium every half-hour. Museum shows the chronology of the Ancestral Puebloan culture. Water and restrooms are located near the museum. A snack bar, gift shop, and bookstore are located near the museum. |
Mesa Verde National Park's main road is open all year. There is limited access in the winter with the peak visitation in July.
In addition to ticketed ranger-guided cliff dwelling tours and special programs, Mesa Verde National Park Rangers provide regularly scheduled programs at no additional fee. At this time the only National Park user fees charged in the park are the vehicle entrance fee, a campground fee, and a nominal fee for guided tours of three different cliff dwellings. | Balcony House Ruins |
late May late Oct | Visitors must obtain a ticket for the tours at the Far West View Visitor Center the day of their visit. There are no advanced reservations. This tour requires climbing a 30 foot ladder and crawling through a tunnel. The site is closed during the winter. |
| Wetherill Mesa Ruins | Memorial Day Labor Day | Private vehicles are allowed on the twelve mile stretch from Far View Visitor Center to the parking area on Wetherill Mesa. From there take the tram for a ranger led tour of Long House and the self- guided tour of the Badger House Community of mesa-top villages. Visitors must obtain a ticket for the Long House tour at the Far View Visitor Center. There are no advanced ticket reservations. Sharp curves and steep grades limit types of vehicles allowed on the road. The length limit is 25 feet, gross weight limit is 8,000 pounds. Bicycles are not allowed on this road due to safety. |
Check out the Children's Discovery Room located in the Chapin Mesa Museum. The 2.8 mile Petroglyph Point trail along with the interpretive booklet acquired at the trailhead is fun for the entire family. The trail starts near Spruce Tree House and the Chapin Mesa Museum.
Children from age 4 to 12 and up can pick up a Junior Ranger Application at Far View Visitor Center or Chapin Mesa Museum. Once the application is completed, they can be reviewed by a Ranger at Far View or the museum. A certificate and badge are earned for a job well done.
